What happens if I link to a good page that later becomes spammy?

Site A links to Site B because Site B has content that would be useful to Site A’s end users, and Google indexes the appropriate page. After the page is indexed, Site B’s content changes and becomes spammy. Does Site A incur a penalty in this case? MrTVTL, Toronto Have a question? Matt, I have a question to ensure it doesn’t affect our sites due to the new update. We service a lot of mom and pop shops in? our local market of 140k. We link our sites to each other not for SE purposes as much as being a community there is a possibility that someone who went to a auto repair site can find other businesses in this same market carpet care, roofing etc. Usually no more than 10 links on the footer of those pages to same market businesses. Will that now affect the rankings?

So if? that bad link is a blog roll link on site A, it is not just one link but every page of the site now links to that one bad place. Does that make a difference?
