Live interactive mega billboard against agression

Public service employees in the Netherlands face aggression and violence on the streets more and more often. Onlookers unfortunately do not intervene often enough when they encounter a situation like this. A live interactive billboard in Amsterdam and Rotterdam is used to place people in a similar situation witch confronts them with their inactivity.

Love this new public safety campaign, other governments could take a lesson from it. It reminds me of some new approaches to dealing with school bullying in the US – realizing that bullies and the bullied will always exist, there are now attempts to increase bystander awareness and willingness to intervene. Good stuff.?

I work in EMS myself – it happens more often than you think, though it doesn’t always make the news. There are people who try to hit ambulances with cars, there was a guy who hijacked an ambulance and tried to hit medics? with it, there was a crazy cop who stabbed a firefighter and medics, etc.

The US is pretty violent but I can’t remember the last time I heard of an ambulance crew being attacked. The firefighters got shot at back in the LA riots and in the 60’s it was common but not now. You people are weird and scary, beating up ambulance medics.?

?wietny sposób na to by przyzwyczaja? ludzi do patrzenia si? na przemoc, pokazywania ja palcem, robienia zdj??, u?miechania si?, cichego komentowania miedzy sob? i nie robienia niczego. Kolejny ekran, z którego wysy?ane s? obrazki przemocy. Tym razem prawie interaktywna. Niby, ?eby uczuli?.?
Bardzo w?tpliwa kampania spo?eczna. Efektowny niewypa?.

Fantastic campaign. Where we are constantly told by authorities to stay out of it, here we see the? opposite and in my opinion a much better option.

Get involved and help when people are assaulted. Random aggression would not be anywhere near as bad is people would simply all stand up against it.

The impact would be much higher? if they placed a real ambulance at the scene too (with one backdoor opened).

P.S I think what we are seeing here is an example of the bystander effect. The term was coined after the murder of Kitty Genovese in NY? 1960s? Wiki it. Interesting (yet easy to read) books on similar topics by Prof Wiseman (too many to list), plus Freakonomics and SuperFreakonomics – The Hidden Side of Everything by Steven D. Levitt & Stephen J. Dubner.

Yes I was surprised by most peoples reaction. I am pretty sure that I would find it quite disturbing to be part of that anti agression screen ”trick”. I found just watching this here on youtube quite hard hitting. Unsure if it would have any positive impact on my potential reaction though due to the flashback effect (the video made me start to relive past violent incidents, which obviously is incapacitating instead of empowering/encouraging). Hope? it works for others though 🙂

Cant believe people think that this doesn’t happen in their countries and that? its just The Netherlands. This happens all over the world, and no its isn’t normal in any part of the world. but it does happen on occasions. Its just dumb and ignorant to think this doesn’t happen in your country, just because you or anyone you know would do it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

I wonder, if this campaign is going to work!? People passing by seem to be entertained by any kind of movie sequence. They seem to enjoy the action rather than beeing concerned about “their” behaviour. ^^ But it’s definitly a good thing to point at the problem and make it public… I? like it, anyway. 😉
