On-page optimization can be done after you have the keywords phrase for your website. In on-page optimization, you need to put the keywords phrase in the title tags attribute, in the meta description and in meta keywords. You also need to have keyword phrase in the content of your web page .

Keyword phrase should also be in H1 tags, in bold tags, and in anchor tags. It will be helpful if the URL of the page will contain the keyword phrase. For static pages, you can name your file using your keyword phrase, for CMS that support search engine friendly URL you can use the alias. Apache module mod_rewrite can be done to have keyword phrase of the page if you are using Apache web server

Off-page optimization is basically getting back links for your website.

There are a lot of techniques on how to get back links for your website. Social bookmarking, directory submission, blog comments, forum posting, press release submission and article submission are ways to get back links.

The most effective are article submission, forum posting, blogs commenting and social bookmarking. Social bookmarking can get indexed fast but they can be easily lost also. Article submission, press release submission, blog comments, forum posting are more of permanent back links. There some considerations needed in blog comments and forum posting. In blog comments, it should be approved by the blog owner, the higher page rank of the blog site the better. In forum posting, you must have the experience about the topics to participate in the discussions; otherwise you become a spammer in the forum.
